Impacts of Colonialism
There have been many studies dealing with how Aboriginal Peoples describe their own trauma, this is important as people are not aware of their own trauma. In these studies we see recurring themes.
Racism
Loss of collective and individual identity,
Inter-generational transmission of trauma and substance abuse.
We also know that not every individual will be impacted in the same way, depending on a community's and/or individual's life circumstances. These impacts of colonialism make Aboriginal Peoples very vulnerable and at risk of systemic victimization by ongoing discriminatory policies and practices.
